[New York, NY, Wednesday, June 5th, 2012] On June 27th in Long Island at the Stephen Talkhouse, artists Richard Barone, David Amram, Taj Weekes & Adowa, Matt Pless, George Martinez & The Global Block Collective and Greg Smith & The Broken English will all perform. The concert is presented by Music For Occupy & First Live. Tickets are $10 and available at www.stephentalkhouse.com
Each of the six artists performing on June 27th was featured on Occupy This Album: a compilation of music by, for and inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement and the 99%. Rolling Stone featured Matt Pless’ track “Something’s Gotta Give” and said of the record “This 99-track Occupy benefit shows how far beyond Sixties folk lefty rabble-rousing has come, with hip-hop, electronica and indie rock sitting alongside Pete Seeger and Joan Baez…a one-two punch designed to strike at the rotten heart of capitalism.”
The performers join a stunning 99 artists who donated new, unreleased and re-mastered tracks including artists such as Yoko Ono, Debbie Harry, Warren Haynes, Mogwai and Tom Morello. Released by Music For Occupy through Razor & Tie distribution, the four-disc physical and 99-track digital compilation was released on May 15th. Proceeds received will go directly to the Occupy Wall Street movement, which began in the financial district of New York on Sept. 17, 2011. The movement can now be found in 951 cities in 83 countries on five continents.
